All you runners/bikers/hot yogis/people who live on the east coast where it is currently 105 degrees out: happy hydrating! Here is a recipe for a homemade, all natural sports drink from Nancy Clark’s Sports Nutrition Guidebook. No artificial colors or weird ingredients, but the correct ratios of carbs/sodium/potassium to keep you adequately hydrated.
HOMEMADE SPORTS DRINK
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup hot water
1/4 cup orange juice (not concentrate) plus 2 tablespoons lemon juice
3 1/2 cups cold water
1. In bottom of a pitcher, dissolve the sugar and salt in the hot water.
2 Add the juice and the remaining water; chill
Yield: 1 Quart

Calories per 8 ounces: 50, 12 grams carbohydrates, 110 mg sodium
